I haven’t Ice Skated in years, but recently got bitten by the Hockey bug again. I can’t get skates yet, or get into Fall league. But I hope to play by the late Winter sessions once I can get equipment.

Anyways, I do have rollerblades for hockey, will this help my legs/ankles get stronger, and be a good workout for Ice Skating training? It’s basically using the same muscles to push, and the balance is pretty similar? Or am I wrong? I’ve seen the Sedin twins train very intensely with inline skating in the off season.

I’m a very solid skater on roller blades, and was great on ice as a younger kid. Will I still fall on my face when I lace up Ice skates for the first time if I train on blades good, and long? Will my ankles be a bending?

Edges are different with in-lines but if you play roller hockey, it will help make the transition a little easier.
Though a street hockey puck or ball is lighter than an ice one, at least you’ll have practised the motions.

Rollerblading will help your cardio, but you could also get that from cycling.

Hi, I am interested in a pair of ‘figure’ skates. I’m just using them for casual skating with friends and family. I am 13 years old, so my feet will probably still grow.

Also, I have smaller than average feet, and I want a brand that looks like women’s skates, not little kid skates that have princesses and sparkles on them. I want them to have decent support, but I have no specific requirements for the blades.

I am not taking lessons, so I won’t be jumping or doing any tricks.

Thank you for your help! Under 100 dollars would be good, my parents are buying.

You’re not going to get a quality pair of figure skates that will last you for a while for under $ 100, you’re looking at $ 150 or so. Jacksons are a good brand, and so are Riedells, but you’ll need to be fitted properly at a pro shop in your area. Look up “figure skating store” or “pro shop” and your city in google, and you should be able to find one. If not, call an ice rink and ask if they have a pro shop or if there is one in your city. They can recommend a model for you at the pro shop, and you can be fitted properly there.

I wouldn’t say I am phenomenal at figure skating (I can’t do tricks or anything) but I am very comfortable on the ice. I took lessons as a kid and I can skate better than the usual crowd at a public skating session. I can skate backwards (slowly, though) and spin, etc.

Do you think hockey skates would be difficult for me, or do you think I won’t have trouble getting used to them quickly?
1) Yes I am good at skating with the V formation, and stopping by turning.
2) I am not buying I just wanted to know if I should take lessons before going to this community scrimmage (there’s a short lesson beforehand for hockey rules but if I can’t stand in them then that might be embarrassing).

Well it depends if you’re comfortable turning your feet and braking on the sides. As long as you get that part going, there shouldn’t be any major difference between figure and hockey skates. Also if you are comfortable skating using the V pattern. You should definitely excel at it.
