Question by : With 4 Pittsburgh kids drafted does this emphasize how important it is to have NHL teams in snowy cities?
A team in Americas deep south will never make sense. Its not like young kids in Florida or Arizona are going to put down the football or mitt for a pair of ice skates. May as well put a hockey club in Sao Paolo.

That’s not totally true. If there were more rinks in the South, maybe hockey would be more popular. You can’t tell me that no football players or baseball players come from the north. It’s just not true.
Give your answer to this question below!
Well, how would you expect a Sun Belt kid to want to play hockey if there’s no team there? It ain’t like someone just comes along and sprinkles pixie dust then instant Toronto happens. Why would anyone build a 1,500 seat mini-rink in a town that has no NHL franchise? Better yet, how can a market be developed and tapped if nobody tries because it’s too warm outside? Did you know that I could go skiing in Dubai if I wanted to?
The development of a market is essential. For instance, look at how long the NHL took (37 years) to establish a third Canadian NHL club (Vancouver) after the original Senators departed for St. Louis.
This in the land where every square inch of land deserves a hockey team.
The success of the NHL has always been in the United States – even if it’s more popular in Canada. But think on your premise for a moment. What if the laws of nature were different and the Earth’s axis was such that the Sun Belt became a cold region. You think hockey would be as popular in Canada then?
The point is that as long as the success of the NHL depends on the United States and it’s markets, then so too does it’s growth. If that means putting a pro team in Little Rock, Arkansas then so shall it be – provided the resources are there. One such resource is stable, committed ownership, which the Thrashers had not. Atlanta Spirit wanted to sell the team. They were located in a non-traditional, but developing market. It has not one thing to do with the fans whom I know are disgusted over losing their team.
They paid to see the Thrashers play, bought their merchandise, tried to hold rallies to save the team all the while in an economy that is anything but conducive to luxurious spending by every day folks. If there exists any Winnipeg fan who feels a hollow victory was won when the Thrashers moved into town, then I can respect them. But I have no liking for the monobrowed ignoramus who thinks that Atlanta didn’t deserve the team it just lost.
Ther are southern teams that are doing very well and winning the Stanley Cup hasn’t been the reason. Do your homework before coming online to show what a moron you can be. That way, some worldly American like me won’t poke holes in your theory.
